2008 Outer Banks Marathon - OBX

November 11, 2008

Two weeks ago we finished the Marine Corps Marathon. It was good and it was fun, but it didn't fully quench our need to run. The week after MCM, I found myself wanting to run another marathon. I didn't want to end it on 2008 MCM.

So I talked with Greg. He said he was thinking about running the marathon in Nag's Head. I knew where Nag's Head was so I was curoius. I told him to keep me informed about what he was thinking.

So I talked with Olga. She said we were crazy. Then she said she was curious how it would feel to run two marathons that close to each other (just two weeks apart). We told ourselves that we were already in marathon shape, we didn't need to do any training. All we had to do was show up and run.

So all three of us decided to go for it. That weekend was pretty crazy for Olga and me. We had friends over Friday night. Sat morning I helped out with a Cub Scout service project, then we got in the car and drove south. We made it down in time to sign up at the Expo, grab dinner with some friends, and go to sleep. Even though our hotel was on the beach we didn't have the energy or time to walk all of fifty feet to see the ocean.

Sunday we got up, ran the marathon and drove home. We were tired, but it all worked out in the end. We realized that it took us more time to run the marathon then it took us to drive home from North Carolina to Maryland. Wow. We also realized that our marathon thirst has been quenched. At least for now.

And I still think we're all slightly crazy...
