14th St Bridge - 2008 MCM

Ahh, sweet victory in the form of a bridge. Well, kinda.

The bridge is the cutoff point. If you make it to the bridge they let you finish the marathon. So the goal is to beat the bridge.

Once you get to the bridge you kinda release a sigh of relief. You aren't thinking about the next six miles. You're thinking about the previous twenty, and how you don't have to do them anymore.

Once we got to the bridge we continued with the Cohoon tradition of walking across the bridge. The Cohoon boys have walked across the 14th Street Bridge in every marathon they have run. We didn't want to break the tradition. We were also tired. And the bridge is made of steel and concrete, which isn't good for knees. Did I mention that we were slightly tired.

We were so tired happy with ourselves that we stopped by the side of the bridge and took a few pictures of the Jefferson Memorial. OK, that reminds me of something funny. When I was a kid I had a hard time remembering which memorial - Jefferson or Lincoln - was flat and which was round. It wasn't until I saw the TV show The Jeffersons that I could remember which memorial was for which. I was able to associate George Jefferson's bald head with the dome on the Jefferson Memorial.

Ray was standing on the bridge waving his flag around. I guess he carried the flag the entire marathon. He's nuts.
