my life — my way

Start - 2008 MCM

We were supposed to meet up with some of my coworkers at 7am. We got off the Metro around 7:30am. Oopsie.

And when we got off the Metro we weren't all that close to the start. We still had to walk about a mile or so. On the way we stopped by the Runner's Village and waited in line for the porta potties. I think I heard the starting gun for the wheelchair race while I was inside.

So we hustled to the start line, which was another long walk. On the way I think we heard the start for the runners. Oopsie, not really the way you want to start a race. But whatever, we were there to have fun. So that's what we did. We crossed the start line about ten minutes after the gun. My coworkers said they started about eight minutes after the gun. Those two minutes weren't significant to us.

The start was a lot of fun again. It's like a big party, but everyone is running. OK, maybe that doesn't sound like a fun party to most sane people. But the start of a marathon is lots of fun. You still have energy, there's about twenty thousand people around you and you still have energy. Plus you still have energy, so existence doesn't hurt. If only the full marathon could feel like the beginning.
