Ukraine Adventure

Less than a week to go for this grand adventure. We're getting really excited. It's hard to work, because we're constantly thinking about the trip.
After talking with other people who have traveled to Russia and experienced the customs agent (including America's finest) I decided that I'm not going to take my laptop with us. I heard customs agents like to make copies of harddrives and sometimes they like to keep the entire computer. Yeah, I wish I could get some security from the security twits. Stas, Olga's cousin, has a computer that I can use, so no worries there. I'm also going to take a spiral notebook and pencil.
We also got a new camcorder for the trip. My old one is starting to pixelate, so that's no good for our trip. One night a week or two ago we went to Mecca (Best Buy) and bought a sweet HD 120gig camcorder by JVC. Then we took it home and became completely unimpressed. I did a little more reading and found out that my computer couldn't handle HD video anyway, so back to Best Buy for an exchange. We ended up getting an inexpensive Sony miniDV modle. I think it'll do great for our trip.
I think we're gonna start packing this weekend. My goal for this adventure is to pack light. I remember ditching a bunch of stuff after a few days in Australia because of weight problems. I don't think that will be as much of a problem here, becuase we won't be moving every other day and I won't have my scuba gear. But I still want to pack light.
This trip is gonna be awesome!

I just heard that Georgia and Russia aren't playing nice right now. Think tanks, planes and bombs. After reading that I went upstairs to the big world map to see where Georgia is. On the map it isn't too far from Ukraine, but on that map Maryland isn't too far from Florida. So I hope that the hostilities aren't gonna mess up our adventure. Wow, I just realized that's odd. Two countries start attacking each other and I'm worried about how that will affect my vacation. Well, more than anything I'm worried that Russia will turn anti-American while we're there. I'm thinking that would not be too much fun. I guess we'll see what happens.

It looks like Ukraine and America are offering support for Georgia. Strange how this is the first thing that anyone talks about now when this adventure comes up...
We're all getting supper excited. I think we've got all our shopping done. Tonight we're gonna pack.
