Fun, had to do exercises to get certified.

The following came from an email I wrote about the trip:

This last wekend I went SCUBA diving. It was my check-up dive for getting certified. The instructors just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't kill myself (or buddies) when I went diving.

The dive took place in a quarry in Pennsivania. It was a camping weekend. We went up Fri, and came back Sun. Here's how it went:

Fri-Got to Penn. I was about an hour late, but they still had the gates open. i kinda thougt that I'd have to sleep in the car, on the road, but I lucked out. When I got to the campsite I set up my tent (in the dark). Then I went to sleep.

Sat-Woke up at some un-Godly hour (I think it was 6:30). Laid in bed for an hour. Got out of the tent around 7:30 and had breakfast. I think it was a ham sandwich and some crackers. Then everyone suited up and went down for our first dive. There were actually three dives on Sat. The first one was without the air tanks (we used fins, snorkels, and masks). We just swam around to get used to the water (i think it was about 50 degrees--almost as cold as my bedroom at home). While we were swimming on the first dive we did some practice with rescues. It was a boring swim.

When we were done with that swim we did some actual SCUBA diving. The first dive was two of the students with one instructor. We just went underwater and swam around. The visibility was about 30 feet. That is good for the quarry, but not great for what most people are used to. The instructor took us to an underwater platform (used for adjusting gear--you don't want to stand on the ground, because it'll kick up silt and make visibility about 30 inches). there was also a crane and outhouse at the bottom of the quarry. We went and saw them. It was kinda neat, but I wasn't overly impressed.
